Brian Frumberg
CEO, Founder
Brian Frumberg is the Founder of VentureOut and and Entrepreneur-At-Large with Gotham Ventures. With vast experience in sales, business development, and product management, Brian's career has spanned finance and technology, startups and venture, and he is now firmly planted in New York's vibrant technology community.
Driven by a passion for technology and startups, Brian has been immersed in New York's technology community since 2009 and now, as the Founder of VentureOut, is helping to foster and grow that community by recruiting the world's best technology startups to New York City.
Prior to VentureOut, Brian worked independently as a strategy consultant to early-stage technology business in NYC, ran business development for OTR Global, a boutique broker-dealer and equity research firm, and served as an Institutional Sales Associate for Standard & Poor's, where he was promoted as the youngest institutional salesperson globally at S&P. Brian received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Richmond.
Ramphis Castro
Co-Founder
Ramphis is the co-founder of ScienceVest (YC F3), a venture capital fund for hard-tech and life science companies, and Impact Science Angels, both focused on investing in companies that can impact 1MM+ lives. He is a Kauffman Fellow, a community of over 500 innovation investors worldwide representing 160 venture firms and corporate venture groups in 40 countries on 6 continents, that have collectively deployed $200B in venture capital. He is the Co-Chair the NYC chapter of the Society. As a Fellow, he has researched the funding gaps for radical science companies in the U.S., collecting interviews of over 200 stakeholders across the research & commercialization ecosystem in the U.S. He is a Founding Board Member for the New York City Innovation Collective - a nonprofit alliance of NYC's top technology organizations comprised of 90+ accelerators, incubators, and other platforms of innovation working together to support & grow the amazing NYC community.
As an individual, he has worked extensively in creating a full-stack startup ecosystem acceleration & support roadmap that deploys programs facilitating experiential education to all stakeholders in a country. From entrepreneurs to emerging managers in the venture industry, Ramphis has supported ecosystem growth in dozens of countries around the world. He is the founder of the largest student-led latino hackathon in the U.S. - HackPR. Most recently, he successfully executed the first Startup Weekend in Cuba. In 2016, upon invitation of the White House, Ramphis was part of the US delegation with President Obama on his historic visit to Cuba.
As a long time Global Facilitator for Techstars Startup Programs, a global organization dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship, grassroots leadership, and strong communities, he has helped train hundreds of academics and lean startup instructors around the world on the principles and practices used for the Lean Launch Pad and iCorp programs. He serves as Adjunct for the New York City Regional Innovation Node's I-Corp Program.
He has served as policy adviser on entrepreneurship, technology, and economic development policy to leaders in Puerto Rico, Norway, Colombia, Guatemala, among others. He has provided thought leadership on startup ecosystem building on publications such as CNN, TechCrunch, Re/code, Entrepreneur Magazine, and others.
As an entrepreneur, he's launched & successfully commercialized IP globally.
Shaun Johnson
Co-Founder
Shaun Johnson is a technologist, early adopter and helper of Startup Hoyas. He is the co-founder of Startup Institute, an edtech company equipping individuals with the skills, access and mindset needed to make an immediate and positive impact on the startup venture they join. Previously, Shaun was an Associate at TechStars, the premier startup accelerator providing seed stage investment and mentorship.
Before that, Shaun was a management consultant in Booz Allen Hamilton’s Strategic Technology & Innovation practice. He has advised companies across the emerging technology landscape, including smart grid energy, healthcare IT, broadband infrastructure & alternative assets. Prior to Booz Allen, Shaun managed metadata and econometrics as a Program Analyst at the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Still a lover of sexy consumer web products, Shaun has also helped numerous startups with product roadmapping, getting off the ground and taking market share.
Shaun holds a B.A. in computer science & sociology from Georgetown University and an M.S. in information systems from The Johns Hopkins University.
